Sorry folks, I’m running behind on comic production. I’m posting the first half of the Monday comic now, will post the second half Tuesday annnnnnnddd maybe the Tuesday comic soon after.
Yes, I too enjoy the inking/line work.. However, with the coloring I can now see where an Ourga’s body parts end and the goma begins. Some of the group drawings made it hard to see the beings properly. So, thanks for the color, as long as you can do it.
I came over from String Theory. I enjoy the way you web comics artists promote each other! I’ve found many many awesome works that way!!
At this point in the story, it hasn’t really sunk into Emily’s head what her capabilities are. So, the very idea of catching a boulder and tossing it back at her assailants would probably seem ludicrous.
I guess she’s obviously a bit more impervious to damage as well, even though she’s been cut by a knife. Bones would break and muscles bruise from the jumps and falls she’s had, heck she’d be dead from the fall with that bug, or even the one on the roof just a few pages back.
I’m starting to think that faith or willpower might play a part, so she’s as strong or as fast as she’s willing to believe she can be in this universe. Whatever the case, the greatest show of strength we’ve seen is when she snapped those ropes that held her arms behind her back. Rope like that is strong, since it’s also able to absorb a sudden shock of weight by stretching, plus having her hands behind her back should have severely limited how much of her strength she could apply effectively. If she could snap that rope with a sneeze and without breaking her arms or tearing her flesh apart rather than the rope I guess leverage is her main issue (i.e. she can catch the shells and take the impact but the ground she’s standing on can’t, or she doesn’t have enough weight in her own body to counter the weight of the shell and is sent flying by/with it, much like when the bug hit her).
I think you’re right about willpower. It would also offer an explanation for what happened with the ropes – when she sneezed, she forgot that she “shouldn’t” have been able to break the ropes.
There’s no doubt that his B&W work was top quality. But I think his colour skills are up there as well and there’s no competition between good B&W and good colour. Colour will always be purchased and preferred over B&W.
hmmm, How is Emily going to get out of this one… I did notice that the castle wall is likely to be nearly impossible to climb or penetrate… I wonder what would happen if Yupa hit that with a shot. I know what’ll happen if she hits Emily… Splatter bonus.
I agree Mike, I prefer to buy and read most comics in B&W. Sometimes when I see the later colored versions of the work, my mind will initially reject it cause it doesn’t agree with the color schemes.
But, I’m going to give a color a try. I actually look forward to playing with the extra dimension it adds to Astray3. If you want to see more of my B&W work, check out my Superfogeys Origin guest comic: http://www.th3rdworld.com/web-comic/The-SuperFogeys
Guess it’s partially breeding, partially a natural part of their body structure… somehow I have a feeling that that beast will act as a… cannon?
Heavy Artillery?
Yet another example of an animal for everything in this place. I still can’t work out if they have some special method for tailor breeding these things like ants, bees and termites have members bred for certain work requirements or if its just a feature of the world.

You know, Emily(and thus, the reading publc) dosen’t know how strong she really is. Could she catch the “shells”? Throw them back, maybe?

Oh please don’t be so apologetic. You’re cranking out these wonderful strips at a breakneck pace. You don’t have to feel sorry!
Thanks Alain, nice to know readers will grant me some leeway on the comic. But, I do like to keep my stated commitments.
Eldon, your B&W line-work is so good you really don’t need to color it. Back when it was B&W I supplied all the color it needed in my head.

If the coloring is setting you back, you could try half the saturation. That’ll make it twice as fast, right?
I like the new style.
Awww, they call it by the sound it makes.
