A “segue” is a smooth transition from one topic or section to the next.

I think it fits right into the story line, and it seems to fit with the previous comic to complete the segur from the previous scene

Come to think of it, you’re right. They’re always there just playing along when some sort of chase goes by. Though sometimes I think they give just odd looks, or don’t even notice the chaos

That Trangpa looks like an interesting game. I take it that the object is to complete the floating sphere

It occurs to me that in every good story, when the shit is going down and some mob of baddies is either chasing or being chased by the Protagonist, there’s always two or three old dudes sitting around, playing some game and making wisecracks as the craziness flows around them.

I believe you are right. It does seem to be a popular cliche. I immediately recall the recurring old men in the “Cowboy Bebop” anime. Though it certainly has deeper roots than that.

This comic seems a little out of place to me. Originally it was meant to expand the citizens’ reaction to unfolding events and add some personal opinions about the Strays in general.
Instead it just interrupts the action from the previous comic for the sake of silly antics.

      (Cue Benny Hill theme music.)

Silly antics and Astray3 seem to go hand in hand. I think people work to hard to avoid cliche sometimes, but the truth is it rocks in a lot of instances, provided it’s used right.

I think it shows the mentality a bit better. The young ones are chasing the Stray for a big reward while the old grunts remember back a while, when Strays were more common and they got into scuffles now and then. Heck, there’s probably still some hatred for human-like beings among the populace as well but this feels like a city which would really work on greed being a driving force. I can’t help but think of a cross between Feist’s Korondor and Pratchet’s more fantastical, Ank-Morpork.

I do consider silly antics a forte of Astray3. The chief purpose of this comic is to be entertaining after all.
